Nina just curled up in a ball and closed her eyes. But her breathing was slowing down and not at the normal rate of one who is sleeping.
He could feel her breathing slow down and he had to try hard to pretend he didn’t notice. He was suddenly very afraid.
But it just got slower and slower; less deep and more shallow… and finally her chest stopped moving altogether.
Holmes widened his eyes when her breathing stopped. Sure he knew CPR, but it didn’t stop the underlying panic. “Nina. No. Nina… please.” He lay her flat on her back and put his ear next to her mouth to see if he was just feeling things that weren’t happening. When he realized it was actually happening he began CPR.
